CAMBS - Train Dispatching SystemCAMBS, Computer-Assisted Manual Block System, is a low-cost value-added dispatching system which helps control on-track equipment movements in unsignalled territory. Dispatchers can handle twice the capacity (more subdivisions and higher traffic levels) then with manual methods of train control and at the same time increase safety by conflict checking. Ideally suited for regional and short-line railroads, CAMBS has been operationally proven and user-tested since 1987 with both single and double track or in ABS territory and is in use on over twenty railways on three continents. The system eliminates train order offices and line staff and permits the efficient operation of cabooseless trains through the protection of switches. CAMBS can distribute its controlled territory over several workstations, allowing redistribution of the territory to a smaller number of desks during low traffic periods. The system interlocks and continually maintains active authorities while preventing conflicting ones. Direct communication between dispatcher and train provides instantaneous control. Train authorities and limits are graphically displayed to aid the dispatcher. CAMBS supports the GCOR, NORAC and CROR rules and can be adapted to satisfy local requirements. It runs on Windows with off-the-shelf PC hardware and requires minimal user training.
